Welcome!
Bringing the world’s first workplace suicide prevention standard to the whole NHS.
Let’s Prevent Suicide is a coalition of charities and the NHS, working together to put BS 30480 into practice in every Trust, health board and practice across the UK. It is healthcare caring for healthcare, and we would love you to be part of it.

For every suicide death, at least 135 people are directly or indirectly affected.
This means suicide touches nearly every workplace at some point, whether through the loss of a colleague or supporting someone in crisis.

The standard
Built on evidence, shaped by experience
Published by BSI in November 2025, BS 30480 Suicide and the workplace is the world’s first standard on suicide awareness at work. It was developed over two years by government, specialist charities, advocacy groups and experts, and is informed by research, data and lived experience.
It gives organisations practical, evidence-based guidance to prevent suicide, intervene safely and support everyone affected: from clear policies and safety planning to compassionate communication and toolkits for managers and HR teams.
Why this is different
A first, across the whole NHS
A world first for healthcare
We believe this is the first time a health system anywhere in the world has set out to adopt a workplace suicide prevention standard across the whole system.
Across the UK
From large Trusts and health boards to GP practices, Let’s Prevent Suicide brings BS 30480 to NHS workplaces across the UK.
From us, for us
Led by a coalition of charities and NHS colleagues, this is not imposed from above. It is healthcare people looking after healthcare people.
